We've had it for a few days and haven't used it yet. It has a chemical smell similar to packing tape. We've placed it in a room with a lot of ventilation. It has the ability to fill the room with
the smell.
I'm sure we could manage to fall asleep with the smell but I would like to know that it's safe. The company has not returned any answer on this.
They did say to take off the cover and wash it. The cover now has no smell.
The smell has gotten better but it is still intense when you get close to the mattress.
Update: It contains TOLUENE DI ISOCYANATE 80/20 (T.D.I.). Based on looking at many websites this seems to be a carcinogen and asthma irritant asthma. Please look up on the web and you can find information on it and other people who have experienced problems.

I bought this mattress over four months ago, so I've had plenty of time to try it out.
First, the bad news: I seriously doubt that this mattress contains 5.3 LB memory foam as claimed. I did some calculations based on the mattress weight, and that claim doesn't really hold up. SleepShop was evasive when I contacted them, but according to their own weight figures the memory foam is most likely 4.0 LB and not 5.3 LB. But honestly, what do you expect for this price? A true 5.3 LB density memory foam should cost about twice as much. (I did extensive research on memory foam and latex mattresses before buying this one, and a quality memory foam mattress with 5.3 LB foam was at least $900 or $1000.)
And now the good news: whatever the density, it doesn't really matter because this mattress is comfortable. I'm very happy that I didn't buy a more expensive latex and memory foam mattress for twice the price. Frankly, if you want a good "budget" memory foam mattress, this is a darned good one. SleepShop apparently has had shipping problems in the past, but they now use FedEx, and my mattress arrived very quickly, in less than a week as I recall. The mattress is more attractive that I was expecting, and the memory foam appears to be a good quality. (Unzip the cover and have a look for yourself.) Yes, there is a smell, and it does take more than a few days to go away, but I didn't find it very offensive. For what it's worth, I have asthma, and the chemicals didn't bother me very much.
A few final notes: if you've never slept on a memory foam mattress before, it may take you a while to get used to it. After the first 4 or 5 nights, I woke up with back and hip aches. But after a week I adjusted, and I haven't had any pain since then. Oh, and you might want to buy a flatter pillow--since your body sinks into the memory foam, a regular pillow might cause your neck to arch too much.
I gave the mattress 4 stars because I don't think the foam is really 5.3 LB density, as SleepShop claims. But in terms of comfort, I don't have any complaints. This is the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on (I've been in college dorms for the past 10 years, so that might not be saying much). If you're on the fence and worried that you might be wasting your money on a lemon, don't be. Unless you are a memory foam expert, you probably won't be able to tell the difference between this mattress and one that costs twice as much.

It's very daunting to order a mattress without actually testing it. I had decided that I wanted to get a tempurpedic mattress because I had experienced back problems in the mornings.
I tested out an Ortho mattress, which is the California version of Tempurpedic (all Tempurpedics, so they tell me, are made in Sweden). Most of these types of memory foam beds sell for $1200-$1500 minimum. So -- to get this mattress for $699 (it's since lowered to $620) was worth the risk.
The delivery was super fast! I expected to wait 3-4 weeks after my order, and it came in about 6 days! The delivery guys carried it upstairs too -- never mind that it was delivered strapped to the top of an SUV.
In short, I'm happy with it. The one thing I want to clear up -- it says the box spring is optional. That's a bit misleading. A box spring is NOT included with this mattress. They sell it separately as a set. I think the box spring, if you want to add it, is $320 or something.
My back feels great after sleeping on this mattress. So I'm a happy customer.
Another thing to note though; memory foam absorbs warmth, so it can be a little uncomfortable to sleep on in hot weather. Also, the foam really smells when you first get it. I hope that it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals.
Again, thanks to Sleep Shop. I'm happy with the purchase.
