Received today. Unpackaged lamp, plugged in, worked as it should. One note: you will need 2 AAA batteries as none are provided I prefer that so I know the ones going in are fresh)
Read all reviews before purchasing this lamp. A few commented on the remote. It IS touchy but if you do not do a gorilla fist pump on it it should respond accordingly. I have been in the electronics business for almost 40 years and too many times have I seen people smash the buttons on their remotes to get them to work. Takes very little pressure to make them respond.
Now to the lamp itself. Was larger than I was expecting but not too large. Very contemporary looking. Should accent any decor. The colors are adjustable in intensity and saturation. Have tried all modes from just one color to transitional modes and it is really cool.
Since this is the first day (11/7/2011) if I encounter any problems I will include an addendum to this review at a later date. No-one knows I bought it yet so am anxious to see the reaction of the family when they arrive home.
One last note: If unit seems to lock-up where the remote does not function, unplug the lamp from the AC adaptor for 30 seconds and then plug back in. This will reset the electronics inside the lamp assembly and unit should function properly.

I love this lamp! I've purchased many different light bulbs and LEDs and lamps over the years to create different lighting environments, but this one has been the best so far. It has a great design and is really easy to work into any room environment. It creates a great ambient experience in light and is a lot of fun and I always gets a compliment when company comes by. The only negative I have to say is with the remote, which looks like I'm not the only one... Now and then it will stop working (the red light will stay on, on the remote), but I just unplug it and that seems to do the trick. All in all, definitely worth it!

The Good:
The lamp looks futuristic and the colors from the lamp do become super saturated and vibrant in a small area of an average room. This is strictly a "mood" lighting lamp. Do not expect it to be a reading lamp. The lamp is easily set up and the remote is both attractive and somewhat easy to use.
The Bad:
It doesn't come with 2 triple A batteries necessary for the remote. I found taking the battery case off the remote and putting it back on to be a little difficult. Almost broke it doing so.
The little user manual could be written in a more logical manner but with common sense and a little trial & error it isn't that difficult to figure out how to operate the lamp without it. Like one reviewer stated, the remote is inconsistent. It is flaky. I tried upping and lowering the saturation and brightness levels. Sometimes it would work well and other times it would stick on the same setting. Also, changing colors from the wheel was a little weird. Sometimes they would change instantly and other times they wouldn't. In fact, LOL - Blue would pop up when you were pressing red over and over again. You can eventually get the color you are looking for but it takes some effort at times.
Also, in the transition modes (both gradual and strobe) the lamp is very slow to react to changing speeds. Again, it takes some effort to get to the desired speed. Another things, the transitions are choppy at times and not smooth. It is a bit distracting.
All in all, I give the Equinox 3 stars ( this is being generous). It does have some nice things going for it but at this price point one should expect a better performing product. In my opinion it's ridiculously over priced for what it is.
The buyer's remorse is strong in me, Yoda.

I've had the lamp for a couple days and now the remote is acting crazy. It won't shut off. The little red light just keeps blinking on for hours. The lamp is reacting to it and acting spastic as well. I tried changing the batteries and resetting the whole thing, but to no avail . The same result.
IMO, the design of this remote is flawed, or cheaply manufactured (maybe both). It seems to have been designed more for aesthetics than working function. This is unfortunate since the lamp does have nice saturating colors when it works properly. Know this, potential buyers - The remote is the only thing that controls this lamp. If it goes haywire, like this one did, there are no other ways to operate the lamp. You will be stuck.
I'm forced to send this thing back. Maybe I'll have better luck with the Phillips model, but this one has definitely been down graded to a 1 star item.
